Media (audio-visual, photo)

In our days, social media are one of the easiest channels used by individuals of different profiles to share with thousands of followers and subscribers of their stances and views. In most cases, some of these messages are part of viral campaigns shared as audios, videos, or photos. They intend to dehumanise minorities and place them in a position where the public can believe that they deserve to be targeted. Facebook, Twitter, WhatsApp, Instagram, TikTok and YouTube have features allowing individual users to share the audio or visual messages. Specifically, YouTube has hundreds of videos uploaded to dehumanise ethnic minorities in Eastern Congo. We aim to record excerpts so that the Centre tries to draw links and networks that drives these campaigns. We encourage everyone who is concerned with the proliferation of online hate speech to share with us any video or audio you think it contains a contagious feature of hate speech.
